DESTINATION AWARENESS SESSION FOR TOUR AGENTS IN SOUTH AFRICA
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pretoria, South Africa, successfully hosted a Sri Lanka Destination Awareness Session on 27 August 2025, attracting over 20 South African tour companies and media representatives.
The event aimed to raise awareness about Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination among tour operators in South Africa.
Delivering the keynote address, High Commissioner H.E. Air Chief Marshal Udeni Rajapakse (Retd) emphasized that “Sri Lanka is far more than just beaches and tea. It is truly a paradise for sightseeing, offering a diverse range of experiences that cater to a wide variety of interests.”
An engaging presentation on Sri Lanka’s most attractive tourist destinations was delivered by Ms. Thiloka Perera, Second Secretary (Commercial) of the High Commission, providing attendees with a comprehensive overview of the country’s tourism potential.
The event also featured virtual participation from three leading Sri Lankan tour operators: Andrew the Travel Company (Pvt) Ltd, Jetwing Travels (Pvt.) Ltd and Ceylon Tours. Each company presented their company profiles and tour packages.
To enhance the event, Mr. Ashish Sharma, a recent visitor from South Africa to Sri Lanka, was invited to share his personal travel experiences, offering guests a first-hand perspective on the island’s charm and hospitality.
The program concluded with remarks by Mr. Suminda Mendis, Counsellor of the Mission, who invited all participants to actively collaborate with Sri Lankan tour operators in creating mutually beneficial partnerships and travel opportunities.
Attendees were treated with authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and Ceylon tea providing a true taste of Sri Lankan culture and hospitality.
