The Sri Lanka High Commission in Pretoria successfully organized a tourism promotional event at the Hazel Food Market, showcasing the diverse attractions of Sri Lanka to an international audience on 28th February 2026.

 

Visitors were warmly welcomed with complimentary Ceylon Tea and authentic Sri Lankan delicacies, offering them a taste of the island’s renowned hospitality. Tourism operators were present to provide information on Sri Lanka’s travel experiences, including heritage sites, scenic landscapes, wildlife, and pristine beaches, while engaging directly with potential travelers.

The event attracted tourists from several countries visiting South Africa, giving them a valuable opportunity to learn more about Sri Lanka as a unique and attractive destination in the Indian Ocean. Informational material was distributed, and many visitors expressed interest in including Sri Lanka in their future travel plans.

The Sri Lankan community in Pretoria actively supported and participated in the initiative, contributing to the warm and welcoming atmosphere that characterized the event. The occasion was graced by the presence of Most Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assajee, Chief Incumbent of Gangarama Viharaya, Hunupitiya, Colombo and Dr. Dulan Hettiarachchi, Chairman of Western Province Tourism Task Force.

The High Commission considers the event a successful and impactful effort in further strengthening tourism promotion and people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and South Africa.
